Finding Yourself in the Psalms

Psalm 98

A Psalm To Honor God for His Great Deeds

Psalm 98.

Glorify God for saving of Israel

Glorify God for Judging the world

1 Corinthians 10:31 (NIV)’So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory

of God.

Our focus needs to be on God, not ourselves.

We must recognize that God’s concern is first for His glory. What He does for us, is done in

order to bring himself glory.

“Many people are willing to be God centered as long as they believe tha tGod is man centered.”

Why is your salvation so secure?

Because you are so interesting (special, loved, etc) to God? NO it is because God’s GLORY is

shown in SAVING YOU.

Don’t trust in MAN. (Jeremiah 17:5) "This is what the Lord says: “Cursed is the one who trusts in man, who depends on flesh for his strength and whose heart turns away from the Lord."

Don’t Trust in SELF. (Proverbs 28:26) "He who trusts in himself is a fool, but he who walks in wisdom is kept safe."

TRUST in GOD. BOAST in GOD.

(Jeremiah 9:23-24) "This is what the Lord says: “Let not the wise man boast of his wisdom or the strong man boast of his strength or the rich man boast of his riches, but let him who boasts boast about this: that he understands and knows me, that I am the Lord, who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness on earth, for in these I delight,” declares the Lord."

(1 Corinthians 10:31) "So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of

God."

(2 Corinthians 10:17) "But, “Let him who boasts boast in the Lord.”"

God’s Glory.

 (Isaiah 48:9-11) "For my own name’s sake I delay my wrath; for the sake of my praise I hold it back from you, so as not to cut you off. See, I have refined you,

though not as silver; I have tested you in the furnace of affliction. For my own sake, for my own sake, I do this. How can I let myself be defamed? I will not yield my glory to another."

 in CREATION. (Psalm 19:1) " The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands."

 In SALVATION. (Ephesians 2:8-9) "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast."

 In ANSWERING PRAYER.(Jeremiah 14:7) "Although our sins testify against us, O Lord, do something for the sake of your name. For our backsliding is great; we have sinned against you." (Psalm 79:9) "Help us, O God our Savior, for the glory of your name; deliver us and forgive our sins for your name’s sake." (Psalm

25:11) "For the sake of your name, O Lord, forgive my iniquity, though it is great."

 In SICKNESS. (John 11:3-4) "So the sisters sent word to Jesus, “Lord, the one you love is sick.” When he heard this, Jesus said, “This sickness will not end in death. No, it is for God’s glory so that God’s Son may be glorified through it.”"

 In DEATH. (Job 1:21) "and said: “Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked I will depart. The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away; may the name of the Lord be praised.”

 In SALVATION.

Eph 1:12, 14; 3:20-21

• (1 Samuel 12:22) "For the sake of his great name the Lord will not reject his people, because the Lord was pleased to make you his own."

Psalm 98: 1-3 Glorify God for saving of Israel

Psalm 98:4-9 Glorify God for Judging the world

Would I be able to rejoice in God’s glory had He chosen to accomplish His glory through my suffering?

I DON’T Know!! Still flesh

Commitment, but can’t don’t know in advance

ALL of us will someday be faced with that question!!!

CHRIST DID.

 (Luke 24:26) "Did not the Christ have to suffer these things and then enter his

glory?”"

 (Hebrews 2:9) "But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels, now crowned with glory and honor because he suffered death, so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone."

WE WILL

 (Romans 8:17-18) "Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory. I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing

with the glory that will be revealed in us."

God did not choose sorrow this time, but SORROW WILL COME!

It’s much easier, delightful to honor God in times of blessing.

It is perhaps much more profound when we honor him during times of trials. LIKE JOB 1:27

God will be glorified.

Will you join in that cause?

(Psalm 34:3) "Glorify the Lord with me; let us exalt his name together."
