A Psalm of Surrender to God’s Grace

In Psalm 143, there is a CRISIS, but it the crisis is the RESULT of DAVID’S SIN There is HOPE.

There is FORGIVENESS.

Righteous One.”

I. The RESULT of Sin. 143:1-6

A. Conflict. 143:3

1. The BACKGROUND is David’s sin with Bathsheba, and his flight from

Absalom. 143:1-2

2. (2 Samuel 15:13-14, 25-26, 30-31)

3. (2 Samuel 15:30) "But David continued up the Mount of Olives, weeping as he went; his head was covered and he was barefoot. All the people with him covered their heads too and were weeping as they went up."

B. Sorrow. 143:4

C. Humility. 143:5-6 HUMBLED by GOD!

1. (Proverbs 16:18) "Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall."

2. (Proverbs 29:23) "A man’s pride brings him low, but a man of lowly spirit

gains honor."

3. (Psalm 138:6) "Though the Lord is on high, he looks upon the lowly, but the proud he knows from afar."

4. (Matthew 23:12) "For whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted."

5. (Isaiah 2:11-12) "The eyes of the arrogant man will be humbled and the pride of men brought low; the Lord alone will be exalted in that day. The Lord Almighty has a day in store for all the proud and lofty, for all that is exalted (and they will be humbled),"

6. (Isaiah 2:17) "The arrogance of man will be brought low and the pride of men humbled; the Lord alone will be exalted in that day,"

D. What led to David’s downfall?

III. The Response of the Savior.
Can we call on him when we have failed?
. . .when we are discouraged?
. . .when we do not feel worthy?
. . .when our hearts are low?

(Psalm 145:18) "The Lord is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth."
