Psalm 130
“A Psalm for Sinners.”
One of 7 penitential psalms (6, 32, 38, 51, 102, 130, 143) Follows a lament psalm (129):
“When we have overcome the trials which arise from man, we are the better prepared to meet those sharper sorrows which arise out of our matters towards God” Spurgeon.
Similarity with Hezekiah’s song after he had been healed from his illness. Isaiah 38:9, 13, 17

Psalm 130 (NIV)
1 A song of ascents.
Out of the depths I cry to you, O LORD; 2 O Lord, hear my voice. Let your ears be attentive to my cry for mercy.
3 If you, O LORD, kept a record of sins, O Lord, who could stand? 4 But with you there is forgiveness; therefore you are feared.
5 I wait for the LORD, my soul waits, and in his word I put my hope. 6 My soul waits for the
Lord more than watchmen wait for the morning, more than watchmen wait for the morning.
7 O Israel, put your hope in the LORD, for with the LORD is unfailing love and with him is full redemption. 8 He himself will redeem Israel from all their sins.

b. Verbal prayer important. Praying with others important.
c. DOESN’T SAY “O Lord, ANSWER my prayer.” More important that God hear than that he answer.
B. Joyful consolation. 3-4
1. KJV “If thou LORD shoulds’t mark iniquity, who shall stand?”

4. Psa 103:12 “as far as the east is separated from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us”
