Butthis passage is important for 2 reasons:

1.Tells of God’s blessing to Abraham because of his faith. Gen24:1

FINALLY,Abraham understands!!!! Gen 24:7

24:7. OBEDIENCE. Abraham believes God’s promise, “toyour offspring I will give this land”

24:7 FAITH. Abraham is no longer trying to accomplish God’s plans withearthly measures, “HEwill send his angel before you…”

Abrahamis not repeating the error of human effort that he did when going toEgypt, or lying about his wife.

2.Establishes important foundations for marriage.

  1. Lessons on Marriage

Donot advocate using the same techniques as the SERVANT

BUTthere are timeless principles that we can observe

    1. The Essential of Spiritual Unity in Marriage

      1. Abraham sought someone from his father’s household.

      2. God specifically told Abraham not to get a wife from among the Canaanites. GEN 24:3 “I want you to swear by the Lord, the God of heaven and the God of earth, that you will not get a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanites, among whom I am living,

      3. Isaac prohibited from Going to Egypt. Gen 26:2 “The Lord appeared to Isaac and said, “Do not go down to Egypt; live in the land where I tell you to live.

      1. CHRISTIANS must marry Christians. 2 Corinthians 6:14-18

      1. Two believers walking in the Spirit of God can overcome any difficulty that circumstances, trials can bring.

    1. God’s Authority over Marriage.

      1. Gen 24:5-9 Abraham trusts God to find a wife for Isaac

      2. Marriage is HIS IDEA.

      3. We don’t have to Manipulate God!!!!!!

      1. Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral.” (Hebrews 13:4, NIV84)

      1. He who finds a wife finds what is good and receives favor from the Lord.” (Proverbs 18:22, NIV84)

      1. But since there is so much immorality, each man should have his own wife, and each woman her own husband.” (1 Corinthians 7:2, NIV84)

      1. Some will be single, but most will marry. GOD can take care of this!

        1. So don’t become desperate, Isaac was 37 when Abraham sent his servant!

        2. Don’t settle for any guy or girl

        3. Don’t focus on appearance. Seek a person’s character!

        4. Don’t manipulate God

        5. Don’t make deals with God

        6. Live your life for ETERNITY and God will take care of yoru heavenly AND earthly needs.

        7. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.” (Matthew 6:8, NIV84)

    1. Sexual purity before and after marriage. Gen 24:16 “The girl was very beautiful, a virgin; no man had ever lain with her. She went down to the spring, filled her jar and came up again.

      1. You shall not commit adultery.” (Exodus 20:14, NIV84)

      2. But a man who commits adultery lacks judgment; whoever does so destroys himself.” (Proverbs 6:32, NIV84)

      3. It is God’s will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality; that each of you should learn to control his own body in a way that is holy and honorable, not in passionate lust like the heathen, who do not know God; and that in this matter no one should wrong his brother or take advantage of him. The Lord will punish men for all such sins, as we have already told you and warned you. For God did not call us to be impure, but to live a holy life. Therefore, he who rejects this instruction does not reject man but God, who gives you his Holy Spirit.” (1 Thessalonians 4:3–8, NIV84)

    1. Biblical Authority in Marriage.

      1. Rebekah LEFT her father’s house.

      2. She is ABRAHAM in REVERSE

        1. Abraham left his family

        2. Rebekah leaves her family

      1. For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh.” (Genesis 2:24, NIV84)

      2. REPEATED by JESUS. “and said, ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh’?” (Matthew 19:5, NIV84)

      3. REPEATED by PAUL. ““For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.”” (Ephesians 5:31, NIV84)

      1. You must LEAVE and CLEAVE.

    1. Growing Love is ESSENTIAL in MARRIAGE.

      1. Isaac loved Rebekah. Gen 24:62-67

        1. Eph 5:25 “Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her

        2. Eph 5:28 “In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself.

        3. Eph 5:33 “However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.

        4. Col 3:19 “Husbands, love your wives and do not be harsh with them.

      1. Isaac’s needs were net by Rebekah. “And Isaac was comforted after his mother’s death.”

      1. Rebekah fulfilled all of his emotional needs.

        1. Don’t turn to someone else

        2. Marriages fail when we beging to seek satisfaction for our emotional needs from someone else.
